The Story of The Winescape
Paul Allen Design is was founded by Paul Allen to pursue an inspiration for a special wine rack and to create a
platform to launch other ideas. A personal story is here. The Winescape represents overcoming the ups and downs
that we all go through in order to achieve a goal. The Winescape is about getting bigger than all of the
circumstances that come up every time you go after something. Every goal you have is valid simply because it's
yours. Winston Churchill said, "if you're going through hell, keep going." He also used to start each day with a bottle
of Pol Roger. That's just good advice all around. If you're inspired take action and get feedback from people you
respect. In the beginning we were donating more Winescapes to fund raisers than we were selling. Giving is like
planting a seed though. It's key for growth. Since the startup in 2006 our customers have become the "who's who" of
New York, Los Angeles and everywhere in between. That's not how it was planned but no complaints here.
Design
The Winescape is distinguished by premium hardwoods, hidden mounts, label presentation, and the strongest mount
in its class. While other racks that use industrial type materials are a question of taste, the stability of the mount is a
matter of safety. Most wall mounted wine racks do not directly touch your wall. Look very closely. They are set off of
the wall by thin spacers. Add a case of wine to that and you're asking for trouble. When a bottle is inserted into a
Winescape the ends of each hole have been specially designed to hold the bottle securely. A bottle cannot fall out
any more than your house key can fall out of the lock. Once a bottle is inserted it must be removed intentionally.
Patents Pending
We have had new customers tell us that they recently spent days of labor and dollars on materials trying to make a
duplicate. The features of these designs, both obvious and not, are proprietary and we are bound to notify federally
regarding any question of infringement.
Specifications
The Winescape is fit to hold most standard wine bottles(750ml) as shown. The racks on this site are not for use in
moving craft such as yachts or RV's. There is another design available for those applications. Instructions are
included with each rack as well as special mounting screws and a special driver bit. Due to weight, the Winescape
must be mounted to a wall stud(2x4) within the wall or to a similar support structure. The overall length of a rack
varies by its bottle capacity. The total width, with bottles installed, is 20 inches. Allow for 3 more inches on each side
for room to take bottles in and out. You can also mount the Winescape in a corner and just use one side of it.
Wood and Finish and "Going Green"
Our wood is kept all natural. The color you see is the wood in its purest form. The entire process is a "green"
process. There are no chemicals or stains or dyes. We're not environmental nuts we're health nuts. No one needs
to be exposed to that stuff. Before shipping we apply a custom mix of natural orange oil and beeswax to each rack to
start the journey. If you prefer, your rack can ship bare. Your Winescape can be maintained with any wood/furniture
care product you prefer. Each piece varies in grain, knots, eyes, checking, and color tone which contribute to the
natural beauty and character of the wood. Finally, the ventilation system in our production shop is entirely solar
powered. We are expanding to eventually run every machine this way. It is exciting to think that the solar energy that
hits the Earth in just one day is enough to power the world's needs for one year.
Shipping and Exchanges
The shipping costs of the 3 main sizing options are $15 and $21 for the larger. Due to the work involved and the
proprietary nature of each rack we cannot take returns. If your Winescape is purchased as a gift and the wood type
is not to the recipients' taste then we can make an exchange. These are purchased as gifts quite often. Please allow
5-7 week days manufacturing time.
Special Orders
Please contact us about pricing for other woods or specific lengths. Be sure to see our customer page for pictures of
a custom 9' foot / 42 bottle capacity Winescape in dark cherry. The Winescape often solves problems like the one
they had. Space was precious in their finely furnished condominium and the Winescape was the solution. One
customer said, "it's not a wine rack, it's a monument!" Wall cellar sounds good too.
